This fascinating map is the second state of one of the best maps of the colonies on the eve of the French and Indian War. Mr. Palairet was the Agent to the States General in London. In 1755 he published the pamphlet "A Concise Description of the English and French Possessions in North America." The map was engraved by Thomas Kitchen and intricately coloured to show the disputed lands, forts, roads, and the extend of settlement in the region. This is an intermediate state between Kershaw785 and 786; the map has an engraved nr.37, Louisburg and Baie Chedabouctou remain but ou Milford have been deleted. From "Atlas Portatif..." With French text in title cartouche and an additional title in Dutch underneath the map. America Aurea Pars Altera Mundi Mapmaker/ Publisher: Valk Time: circa 1700 Large decorative map featuring the Island of California with only an engraved line of Terra Esonis hinting at a landmass stretching northwestwards towards Asia. Amerique ou Nouveau Continent Dressee sur les Nouvelles Relations… Mapmaker/ Publisher: Nolin, Jean Baptiste Time: 1754 Very handsome map of the Americas decorated with a large title cartouche depicting two Indians smoking a peace pipe and preparing smoke signals. The cartouche is embellished with huge flowering plants that conveniently obscure the northwest coast of North America. An inset at bottom completes the picture with the Deslisle/Buache theories of the Northwest Passage.
